Meet our sister projects!

Democracy in Action is part of a trio of Horizon Europe research projects, alongside DELIAH and Larpocracy - funded under the call “Culture, the arts and cultural spaces for democratic participation and political expression, online and offline.” Together, these projects explore how creativity, culture, and technology can strengthen democracy in Europe. Their shared goal is to develop recommendations and tools that foster civic participation beyond traditional democratic institutions—especially through cultural, artistic, and digital spaces for political expression.

Larpocracy
Larpocracy takes an innovative and playful route toward democratic renewal. It harnesses the power of live action role-playing (LARP) to strengthen civic engagement, both online and offline.
Through immersive, co-created story worlds, Larpocracy invites participants to step into different roles and perspectives - practising the essential democratic skills of dialogue, cooperation, and empathy. It’s democracy, rehearsed through imagination: a space where participants can experiment with leadership, negotiation, and collective decision-making in creative and embodied ways.

DELIAH
Our other sister project DELIAH explores one of democracy’s most unexpected yet powerful forces: humour. By examining how humour operates across artistic, cultural, and digital spaces, DELIAH investigates both its bright and dark sides: how it can build connection and democratic understanding, but also how it can be weaponized to divide or undermine trust.
The project has two main goals: to turn research on anti-democratic speech and ‘humorous’ hate speech into practical policies and educational tools that strengthen democratic literacy; and to explore the potential of humour as counter-speech - a creative strategy to confront discrimination, hate, and polarisation.
