About us

We are a team of more than 20 people from across Europe researching how grassroots arts and culture can strengthen democracy. Through case studies from nightivism to civic engagement, we explore how creative spaces - offline and online - foster inclusive political participation.

Mission

Democracy is at a crossroads.

We believe in the power of creativity, play, and co-creation to build more inclusive and empowered communities. Democracy is not only about institutions, it lives in the streets, in cultural spaces, in movements led by people. By amplifying local voices and fostering transnational dialogue, we connect grassroots changemakers and activists with policymakers, ensuring that democratic innovation is informed by real experiences. Through research, storytelling, and collaboration, we turn imagination into action, showcasing bold ideas, creative resistance, and new ways of shaping democracy from the ground up.

Values

Our core values

Inclusivity

Democracy thrives when all voices are heard, especially those often excluded from decision-making. By fostering spaces for dialogue and co-creation, we ensure that grassroots movements, cultural communities, and marginalized groups play an active role in shaping the future of democracy.

Creativity

Arts and culture have the power to expand our imagination and open new possibilities for democracy. Meaningful change comes through action, and we embrace experimentation as a way to learn, adapt, and discover new forms of participation.

Community

Strong democracies are rooted in strong communities. By bringing together grassroots organizations, researchers, and policymakers, we foster spaces of solidarity, shared learning, and collective action, ensuring that democratic participation is shaped by those it affects most.

Behind the scenes

In February '25, our team gathered in Lisbon for our first meet-up.

Throughout the week we worked together in brainstorms and workshops, explored new ideas, and got to know each other beyond the projects we’re working on. We are looking forward to our next meet-up Krakow in 2026.
