Presentation of the virtual reality recording of the play "Clean Pots, Dirty Pots"
In Clean Pots, Dirty Pots, written by Equatoguinean author Juan Tomás Ávila Laurel, we follow Yamba Yahyé, an African woman who keeps a household alive between Africa and Europe. She feeds children who are not her own, in conditions shaped by scarcity, marginalisation and the lasting effects of colonialism. Her kitchen becomes a place of cultural and emotional resistance, and her shopping list becomes a political statement.
The play is directed by Sonia Espinosa Muñoz and performed by Silvia Albert Sopale. It has now been recorded as an immersive virtual reality performance.
On 30 November, IMF-CSIC and Periferia Cimarronas present the VR version in Barcelona. The session opens with a short introduction to watching theatre in virtual reality and what the format makes possible.
